All the study spaces are now filled!

Thank you to all those who have enrolled, the study teams and the community organisations who have worked together to achieve this.

Some participating clinics are keeping a register of people interested in PrEP so they can let you know if recruitment reopens.

If you would like to receive updates on the development of a research agenda around PrEP including future PrEP studies, and on the development of a PrEP policy in the UK, you can sign up to the new MRC CTU PrEP Update mailing list at

mrcctu.PrEPupdate-subscribe@ucl.ac.uk

We will be emailing the people who have already expressed an interest in volunteering in future PrEP studies to invite them to join this list.

Why take part?

The study will give us more information about how PrEP could be used to prevent new HIV infections amongst gay men.

By taking part, you could reduce your own risk of catching HIV.

Our team will help and support you to be healthy.

You can take part in the study if you:

  • Are HIV negative
  • Are 18 or older
  • Have had anal sex without a condom in the last three months.
  • Are likely to do this again in the next three months.
  • Can visit the clinic for blood tests every three months.

To find out more, click here for the Participant Information Sheet.

The PROUD study protocol is available here - this is quite lengthy reading; you might want to email any questions to mrcctu.trial-proud@ucl.ac.uk or contact your local clinic to clarify anything.

Recruitment to the study has taken place at sites in London, Brighton, York, Manchester, Sheffield and Birmingham. Click here for more information and contact details.
